“ Well there was nothing wrong with how you looked before. I like it though you
look even more handsome. I can even see your smile now.”
Elijah blushed at her comment and then showed her the flowers.
“I got you these.”
“They’re so beautiful Elijah thank you so much!”
Elijah got into the car and they drove off to central park. The ride to the park Lydia
told Elijah about how she’d barely gotten to work on time the day they went to the
diner. When they got there they spoke about everything and anything. Elijah was
completely comfortable with Lydia. They spent hours walking around completely
entranced by each other. When they got tired they went to go sit on a bench where
Elijah engraved his and Lydia’s names on. They’d visit the park bench every time
they went to central park. They went on many more dates for the next three
months. Then on December when Lydia was going to go get a routine physical her
doctor discovered she had lumps in her breast after doing a mammogram. Soon
after she began chemotherapy. Elijah was devastated. The same cancer that had
taken his mother away would take his lover away. For the next two years Elijah
and Lydia kept their hopes up that everything would be fine. Lydia and Elijah
created a charity to help under privileged children. Elijah got a job and everything
was going great. The chemo was working. It looked like Elijah’s life had finally
