First Day of School Celebrations K-12 First Day Celebration at 8:30 AM The first day of school is Wednesday, August 28. You are invited to join us in celebrating the beginning of the new school year! Each year, we begin with a K- 12 Celebration Chapel, and parents are always invited to stay and join in on the celebration that features teacher skits as we launch the year’s school-wide theme, BEHOLD THE KING! PTFA Parent Breakfast at 9:00 AM Immediately following the Celebration Chapel, parents are encouraged to join the Parents, Teachers, Friends Association (PTFA) for breakfast and fellowship in the foyer at 9:00 AM. All parents are automatically members of the PTFA, so this is a great way to meet new faces and fellowship with one another. Arrival Notes for First Day On the first day of school (August 28), please plan to arrive no earlier than 8:15 AM. Volunteers will be available to help guide traffic; please follow their directions as well as all posted stop signs. Parents may park and walk their children into the sanctuary or drop them off with the student greeters at the double doors. Students who must arrive before 8:15 will follow normal arrival procedures. All Pre-K students will go directly to their classrooms on the first day of school. Early Dismissal & PTFA Fundraiser at Sweet Frog School will dismiss at 1:00 on the first day of school. All families are invited to celebrate the first day of school by purchasing frozen yogurt at the Manchester Sweet Frog from 1-4:00 PM in support of this PTFA fundraiser. Ready for School to Begin? Please review the following checklist to be sure your student is ready to begin the year. _____ Do you have all your paperwork submitted? All returning families need to submit a signed tuition contract, updated medical and immunization forms as mandated by the State of Connecticut (students entering Pre-K, Kindergarten, and Grades 7 and 10), and a signed Photo Waiver. All new CCS families need to submit the above paperwork plus emergency contact information. _____ Does your student in Grades 6-12 have all of his/her textbooks (or at least proof of purchase)? This is a requirement for each student in Grades 6-12. Students will not be permitted to attend classes after the first day of school if they do not have their books or proofs of purchase. The textbook and supplies lists are available on the CCS app. _____ Does your student in Grades 6-12 have a copy of his/her schedule? You can obtain a copy of your student’s schedule on Sycamore; however, we will still distribute a new copy to your student on the first day of school. Requests to add or drop electives courses may be submitted to the head of school within the first two weeks of school (ending 8:30 AM on 9/11). Requests to add/drop are not finalized until the head of school has communicated approval of each request. _____ Does your student in Grades 3-12 (who will be taking P.E. this year) have his/her P.E. uniform ordered (by 8/16)? It is important that each student, beginning in Grade 3 and up, have the official CCS P.E. uniform, which is to be worn each day that the student has P.E. class. (See the related article later in this newsletter.) Order online through our P.E. Uniform Store. _____ Did you order your child’s FREE theme shirt? Please tell us the preferred size by Wednesday, August 7. Page 4 of 10
