Athens is staging a July 4 holiday fireworks festival that celebrates America’ s 250th anniversary.

America is turning 250 this year, and Athens is turning up the bright lights to celebrate this Independence Day with the Red, White and Boom Festival on Friday, July 3 and Saturday, July 4. Athens-Limestone Tourism is partnering with Athens Arts for the expanded festival, which will feature a larger fireworks show, art events, live music, food trucks and a whole lot more.
" As a Vietnam veteran, I am drawn to the stories of the men and women who sacrificed for our country,” Athens Mayor Ronnie Marks said.“ I value seeing our citizens pay tribute to our freedoms by reciting The Pledge at public events and by celebrating together as families. We are blessed to be able to gather publicly to celebrate this milestone, and I hope citizens and visitors will join us for the momentous occasion."
The fun kicks off on Friday, July 3, with Art After Hours from 7-9 p. m. on The Square on Marion Street, hosted by the Athens Arts League. Huntsville-based band JED-Eye will play live, performing fan favorite covers from the Bee Gees, Elvis, Prince and more. The Rocket City Starlets, an all-female performance and volunteer dance group, are also slated to perform.
