TRADITIONAL FIGURE
SCULPTURE
(10 WEEKS)
(10 WEEKS)
Focus on developing techniques
for altering thrown forms on and
off the wheel to create functional
pottery. Strategies will be presented
to encourage students to develop
their aesthetic vocabulary. A range
of techniques will be demonstrated,
from dissecting forms to constructing
with slabs. Group discussions of new
techniques and contemporary works
also aid in our discovery of form and
function.
Working weekly from a nude model,
students will take a methodical
approach to sculpting the figure.
Students may choose to sculpt a head,
torso or full figure. Focus will be given
to anatomy, body proportions, poses
and gesture. Building techniques
and observational skills will be
emphasized. Special attention will
be given to traditional and nontraditional finishing techniques for
sculpture.
