DIGITAL DIGITAL ARTS & PHOTOGRAPHY CREATE A FRAMEWORK FOR CREATIVE EXPLORATION using a variety of technological tools and processes. Our current classes offer students the opportunity to refine their skills as a photographer, designer or animator. Like digital media, our department is always changing as we innovate with this dynamic means of expression. DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY BEGINNER/ ADVANCED BEGINNER FIRST-TIME DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY (5 WEEKS) Before that new digital camera becomes an expensive paperweight, learn how it works and how to make beautiful images with it. We’ll use easy technical explanations, shooting exercises, and a review of student images to teach you how to find, compose, and capture compelling photographs. Camera with manual settings required, DSLR preferred. Please bring a flash drive. FIRST-TIME LIGHTROOM BEGINNING DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY HOW TO PHOTOGRAPH ARTWORK (10 WEEKS) (5 WEEKS) Are you on “automatic” mode? Learn how to use your camera with all of its various settings. Learn about composition, subject choice and thematic ideas. Clear lectures and hands-on exercises will have you shooting like a pro. The course will also cover the basics of image enhancement in the digital lab. Basic computer skills and a digital camera with manual controls (DSLR preferred) are required. This class will show you how to make effective photographs of your paintings, ceramics, or jewelry with a few simple lighting techniques and understanding of your camera. You will learn how to use the computer to adjust, crop, and resize your images for websites and juried shows. Please bring your digital camera, a small piece of your artwork to photograph and a flash drive. Learn to coax expression out of blank faces and put subjects at ease. Participants will consider the power of portraits in conveying meaning. Work on location with available light then move into the studio and learn about controlled lighting. There will also be in-class shooting assignments and critiques. DSLR camera preferred.
