RELIEF, COLLAGRAPH AND
FOUND OBJECT MONOTYPES
REDUCTION COLOR LINOCUT
MULTI-PAGE BOOKS FROM
SINGLE SHEETS
(10 WEEKS)
(5 WEEKS)
(1 DAY)
Learn to cut linoleum blocks for
printing multiples. Combine them
with collagraph plates made by
collaging materials together to
create background textures and
direct compositions. Students will
also experiment with inking found
objects to add to their composition.
Additional creative monotype
techniques will also be explored.
Plates, inks and some paper are
available for student use. All levels
welcome.
Create a print in multiple colors,
from just one block of linoleum.
This technique, invented by Picasso,
involves successively cutting away
lino from one block after you have
printed each color (reducing the
block after each stage). Class covers
selecting suitable imagery, managing
the cutting and proofing stages,
and playing with different inking
techniques to produce dazzling, multicolored Japanese-style prints.
Achieve instant artistic gratification by
making multipage books out of single
sheets of paper. Learn various ways
to fold, score, and cut different sizes
of paper that result in beautiful small
(and not so small) books. It’s a great
way to make your own sketchbooks,
gifts for friends and family, and reuse
new or old artwork on paper.
