ALLA PRIMA PAINTING
(10 WEEKS)
Using oil paints as the medium,
learn the foundation techniques and
relationships needed to successfully
paint wet-on-wet. Topics include the
connection between shape, value and
hue creating definition, drawing with
a brush and strategies for painting
wet into wet. It will liberate you from
drawing outlines and filling them in
with color. Students will paint from

progress to portraiture with a live
model.

INTERMEDIATE PORTRAITURE
$30 model fee
(10 WEEKS)
While the emphasis is on observation
and perceptual drawing and painting,
students are encouraged to develop
their own approach. Work from a
costumed model during two-week
poses. Instruction is one on one at the
level of each student. Students with
less experience will receive structured
lessons and demonstrations.
Experienced students are given
continuous feedback at their level.
Students may work in the medium of
their choice: charcoal, conté, pastels
or oils.
PAINTING THE FIGURE ALLA
PRIMA
(10 WEEKS)
Building an understanding of visual
concepts enables students to paint
directly in color. The bravura strokes
of a Velazquez or Sargent require
an intimate knowledge of how light
travels across a form, how values shift,
the interconnectedness of color and
the varied quality of edges. This class
is ideal for oil painters and pastel
artists.
