Safer Moving & Handling
Legislation
There are a number of Acts of Parliament, regulations and
approved Codes of Practice which cover moving and handling
operations in the workplace.

Health & Safety at Work Act 1974:
Provides a legal framework to ensure the workplace is as safe as
possible for anyone who enters it.
This includes, so far as is reasonably practicable:
?Provision of information, instruction, training and supervision
necessary to ensure health and safety
?Maintenance of any place of work under the employers control,
and all means of access and egress from it in a condition that is
safe and without health risks
?Provision and maintenance of a working environment and
equipment that is safe and without risks to health

Employees have a responsibility, so far is reasonably practicable,
to follow their training and keep a safe environment for themselves
and others around them. This includes using PPE (Personal
Protective Equipment) safely and correctly.
