Beowulf can be properly called an „epic‟ because it fits the standard definition of the epic: a long narrative poem, oral or written, that presents the events and celebrates the adventures and achievements – important to the mythology or history of a race, nation or society – of a central heroic figure of high position in that society and whose traits are exemplary and deeds are of great value, and both his traits and deeds are beneficial to that society.
