This poem praises a hero for his bravery, compromise, and generosity. It reflects the recognition of the Christian religion as the established one. The story is developed in Scandinavia approximately around 500 and 600 AD, and narrates how a warrior defeats all kinds of monsters and enemies to become the king.
All of these poems show that literature has been present from the earliest of times and how men (and who knows…may be women) use their imagination to narrate and to “set in stone” all of their feeling and experiences. This is just the tip of the iceberg, so come back to read a lot more about the Old English literature in the next issue!
