SUPPORT STAFFORDSHIRE Volunteer driver appeal O rganisers of a local minibus scheme which provides a lifeline to housebound residents and supports groups across the Moorlands to get out and about, are appealing for volunteers. Support Staffordshire (Staffordshire Moorlands) which operates four Community Transport Minibuses, is looking for drivers from the Leek are a. Drivers need only a normal licence and will have an assessment beforehand. They will be fully insured and all expenses covered and can do as few or as many hours as they want. Sally Bentley, Community Transport Officer at Support Staffordshire (Staffordshire Moorlands) told Leek Life: "The minibuses play a vital role in the local community. Used by groups who support local elderly residents, it is a lifeline, allowing them to get out of their homes and keep in contact with their friends. But we are increasingly being asked to support other community and voluntary groups who want to use the bus on an evening or weekend too. “We are appealing for more drivers and volunteer escorts to help us to cope with the demand and be able to offer the service to as many local groups as possible in the area.” Anyone interested in becoming a volunteer driver, is asked to contact Sally on 01538 386888 or by email at [email protected] Leek Life November/December 2013 31
