ETHNOMARTYRAS KYPRIANOS LYCEUM STROVOLOS STROVOLOS
In our school there are about 550 students aged 15 to 18. There are about 80 teachers and 15 administrative and auxiliary
staff. It is situated in Lefkosia, the capital of Cyprus in the suburb of Strovolos and is a public school, which mostly prepares
students to either follow university studies or seek employment after graduating. As from the present year there has been admission and a preparatory class for non-native speaker students, mostly
refugees.
There is a group of five teachers that will be placed at the school for the next three years and have a high interest in getting
involved with an Erasmus project. As a school we are involved in several programs, such as PULCHRA, GLOBE, SHE and EPAS. Running all these programs helps our students to get involved with different subjects that are not included in the curriculum. These programs run
projects concerning the environment, health and the European Union. Our students also on different occasions, as volunteers, support the local community throughout the year. They are involved in fund raising for different organisations, blood donations, giving small musical concerts at elderly homes especially around the Christmas and Easter period, as well as performingin cultural activities organised by the local community, contribute to making them feel useful and gain selfesteem.
We are sure that giving the opportunity to our students to interact with people from other countries will be beneficial for them,
since contact with different ideas and cultures will broaden their horizons, promote acceptance of different people or
different ideas and help the spread of European values.
