Taken from minutes of Council meeting – 1 Dec 2016

It was reported that issues raised at the last meeting had now been resolved – residents of “The Steps” had cut back their hedge to assist visibility to road users and the white lining had been repainted by the Highway Authority. The missing Hooks Lane sign had also been replaced.

The Clerk reported that she had written to both County Cllr W Windsor-Clive and District Cllr P Molyneux asking for an update on the introduction of fibre broadband for the area. A response had not been received from Cllr Molyneux and Cllr Windsor-Clive had advised that unfortunately he had no new information

to impart. Pauntley Parish Council had advised that they were looking at various options and had asked parishioners who were experiencing problems with broadband issues to advise them.

Cllr Manning advised he had made local enquiries with regard to seeking a new

internal Auditor but to date had not been successful. Members discussed the requirements of the position – the Clerk advising the most important requirement was that they must act completely independently and impartially. It was hoped to find someone who could undertake this important but not onerous position by the next meeting.

It was agreed to apply for grant funding available to comply with the new Transparency regulations which would enable the Council to have its own website.

Members considered its budget for 2017/18 and agreed to precept as last year, in the sum of £2000.

It was agreed following numerous complaints, to report large amounts of mud on the road caused by large numbers of lorry movements to and from Old Oak Farm Upleadon. Date of next meeting: 2 March 2017.

Easter Lilies at Oxenhall

Can you help with Upleadon church flowers and cleaning?

Thank you to all members of the Church Flower and Cleaning Rotas for your hard work during the last year keeping the church so beautifully clean and delightfully decorated. It is a commitment and the PCC is very grateful that, despite no doubt your busy lives, you are prepared to set the time aside to keep our beautiful church looking so well cared for, a point that does not go unnoticed by visitors and parishioners alike.

We are always looking for more people to join the rotas and, if you feel you can spare an hour or two on a double weekend once or twice a year to do a little cleaning or flower arranging, it would be very much appreciated. The more people on the rotas the fewer times your slot comes up! For information on how the rotas work please contact Christine Draper 01531 820043.

We recently secured a defibrillator for the Parish with grant funding from the Forest of Dean District Council and the Village Hall Committee. It has been installed on the wall of the Village Hall for easy access and connected by a local Electrician free of charge. Thank you to all.

The Parish Council in conjunction with the South West Ambulance Trust is to hold an Awareness Session on Wednesday 22nd February 2017 at the Village Hall at 7.30 pm. The Ambulance Trust will explain the use of the defibrillator and the procedure to obtain access to the unit. Please take this opportunity to come along to familiarise yourself with this important equipment - one day it could save your life.

Bromsesberrow school choir preparing for Birmingham concert & new playgroup started Bromesberrow St. Mary’s Church of England school have settled back into the new term with enthusiasm after having a lovely break over the Christmas period. Already our choir (who are small but definitely mighty) are practising diligently, as they will be taking part in Young Voices in Birmingham later this month. This has been an annual trip for us for the last few years and provides a wonderful opportunity for the children to take part in a musical experience on an impressive scale.

Our school/parent led playgroup has started up again, running every Wednesday during term time from 10am-11.30am. This provides a great service for all our families, so if you know anyone with little ones please do encourage them to give us a try! They have their own Bromesberrow Tots Facebook page for parents information.
