Shauna ’ s boss — let ’ s call her Tiffany — was the actual worst .
At the senior level , Tiffany was vocal about her commitments to diversity , equity , inclusion , and belonging , and she championed the company ’ s need to elevate women . But to those who reported up to her , she acted as a gatekeeper to opportunities . Time and time again , when Shauna was considered for project leadership or task force participation , Tiffany swooped in and gobbled up the opportunity for herself .
When Shauna decided she was ready to make a change , her friend recommended De Pree Center ’ s Road Ahead program . The program is structured so that , in the second session , people get very deep about their vocational pain points and what those pain points reveal about what they ’ re longing for . For Shauna , her pain point was that she felt undervalued , and it was impacting her confidence . When it came to assessing if she was a good fit for a new opportunity , Tiffany had really messed with her head . Embedded within this pain point was Shauna ’ s deep desire to be a highly valuable member of a team and to have a boss who sought her best instead of blocking her growth .
