At the start we need to acknowledge the setbacks , the weary muscles , or any part of the pace of life that isn ’ t working anymore . Similarly , if our primary job right now is harder to quantify , harder to explain because it ’ s creative , seasonal , or relational , paying attention to our body in this process matters ; it is no less valuable . And whether we like it or not , work cannot be completely compartmentalized from the rest of our lives . So even when the hard seasons aren ’ t happening to us personally but to someone we love , it can take a significant toll on our own work calling .
When the work we have before us enters into a long-term season of stress , we need to pay attention to the flashing lights and pull over , or we will unknowingly enter the dangerous terrain of chronic stress .
