my pain was screaming for me to do . But the Holy Spirit stopped me . Through the years , I ’ ve come to recognize His loving , firm , comforting , warning voice . When I sense Him speaking — even faintly , beneath all the emotional noise — I try to pause and listen . That ’ s not always easy to do . This time , I did .
“ OK , Lord . What do You want me to do ?” I asked . After that , I prayed in the Spirit . Praying in the Spirit is something I learned early on when I was baptized in the Holy Spirit . It ’ s one of our most powerful spiritual gifts , especially when we ’ re in the midst of turbulence and don ’ t know how to pray or what to do . Our own spirit within us groans , often through tears . Thankfully , tears are a language the Holy Spirit understands . It does us good to pause and pray in the Spirit before acting impulsively . “ The Spirit helps us in our weakness . We do not know what we ought to pray for , but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans ” ( Rom . 8:26 , NIV ).

As I was groaning in the Spirit , the Lord spoke clearly and unmistakably : “ He ’ s worth fighting for .” Taken aback a bit by this revelation , I took a deep breath and then exhaled . “ He ’ s worth fighting for .” This time , a supernatural calmness filled me , and from that moment , the Lord surrounded me with what I call His Holy Spirit bubble . That ’ s when Jesus , through His Spirit , protects you emotionally while He carries you . It ’ s a spiritual version of walking on the waves . Really , that is the only way we can make it
