Clayton Kershaw is a self-proclaimed cookie guy . “ I can crush the cookies ,” he says . His favorite movie is Dumb and Dumber , his favorite color is green , his favorite practice drill is pepper , his favorite subject in school was English , and his favorite thing to do in the lives of others is to instill hope .
You know hope — it has a way of showing up at times when you need it most . Your bank account is low , but there is that one deal that is on its way .
Your favorite team is down by one point , but there is still some time left on the clock . The doctor gives you news you don ’ t want to hear but says he knows what to do to make everything okay . We need hope almost as much as we need water , food , and air . When good news comes your way , hope gets stronger . When bad news comes your way , you immediately start looking for hope . If you are a kid at Christmas , hope shows up every time you look under the tree . If you are a grandparent , it shows up when you think about the entire family getting together . Hope is free to possess but devastating to lose .
Clayton and his wife , Ellen , met hope one day . They met it in the form of something they could give , something they wished for , and they met hope in the form of a little girl . Hope was born in Lusaka , Zambia , and she had battled HIV her entire life . She was an orphan who was sick and abused , and she was in need of what her name suggested .
The couple realized God had put them in a position to provide hope to a little girl named Hope , and this was when Kershaw ’ s Challenge
