Miraculously , I never had a heart attack , and my heart suffered no apparent damage despite the restricted blood flow . In a real sense , I have a new lease on life . Though not as dramatic as open-heart surgery , the beginning of a new Bar year also offers us an opportunity for renewal . I encourage each of you to see the new Bar year as an occasion to renew your purpose , effort , and enthusiasm . Legal work can be tremendously stressful and , at times , can depress us . sometimes it feels like a physical weight we ’ re carrying . But our work also helps people , often when they ’ re in dire straits and most in need of aid , and providing that relief often is its own reward . Let ’ s start the new year with a fresh determination to be better and to do better . one way to find a renewed sense of purpose in our profession is through service on one of the HCBA ’ s many committees . I invite each of you to consider joining the HCBA Professionalism and Ethics Committee . It seems that the need for civility and professionalism only increases from one year to the next . We ’ re always looking for attorneys who want to help improve the legal profession and offer new ideas for doing so . Please call me at ( 813 ) 786-5179 if you ’ re interested .
Even if you don ’ t choose to serve with our committee , please find other ways to serve within the HCBA — you ’ ll be glad you did ! Best wishes to each of you for a safe and successful Bar year ! n
