Erin Slattery , the new president and CEO of the Laguna Beach Chamber of Commerce

PASSING THE TORCH

Erin Slattery , who has worked at the Laguna Beach Chamber of Commerce since March as the events and marketing manager , took the helm as president and CEO on Aug . 1 following Paula Hornbuckle- Arnold ’ s announcement that she was “ re-retiring ” from the position ; she had been back at the helm for seven months in an interim capacity following Sandy Morales ’ departure in January . Hornbuckle- Arnold will continue her involvement with the Chamber by serving on its board of directors . Slattery , a third-generation Lagunan , is the granddaughter of renowned local landscape architect Fred Lang . A graduate of Laguna Beach High School and Chapman University , Slattery has worked as a membership specialist for the Girl Scout Council of Orange County and also in the office of the Laguna Beach Community Foundation , where she became acquainted with the local business community . She also served as development manager at the Ocean Institute in Dana Point and donor relations manager at Bowers Museum in Santa Ana before coming to the Laguna Chamber earlier this year . “ I look forward to supporting the Laguna Beach community ,” Slattery says . “ I feel the Chamber of Commerce is an advocate for small businesses . Some businesses have teams that help them navigate local and state government policies . Our small businesses here in Laguna might be run by a single owner and the Chamber can help be their team , advocating on their behalf to our government officials .” ( 949-494- 1018 ; lagunabeachchamber . org ) — S .
