Legendary waterman Chuck Patterson , who splits his time between nearby San Clemente and Vermont , has teamed up with Melin — a premium hat brand that opened a flagship store in Laguna Beach back in May — to create a signature hat : the Trenches Neptune Hydro . This one-of-a-kind snapback cap features both a water-resistant exterior and moisturewicking lining with a buoyant visor core . It ’ s been tested in the elements and proves perfect for any water sports adventure . Patterson , an extreme athlete known to push boundaries , has surfed the 40- to 60-foot waves at Peahi , also known as Jaws surf break , in Hawaii , paddled alongside great white sharks and ridden waves at Northern California ’ s Mavericks Beach on custom skis . “ My inspiration for the Neptune was encompassing everything from the ocean , as it has given me so much ,” Patterson said in a press release . “ For me , the ocean is my big escape and any day on the water puts a smile on my face .” The hat , offered in a heather gray color , comes with a cinch sack that features art inspired by Patterson ’ s global ocean adventures .
