MMS and MCA Convocation

The MCA and MMS students of K.J Somaiya
Institute of Management Studies and Research
witnessed their first official Convocation on
Saturday, 9th August 2014. The Chief Guest for the
ceremony was Smt. Medha Patkar, Social Activist
and Reformer, and the Guest of Honour was Shri.
Harish Mehta Executive Chairman and Managing
Director, ONWARD Technologies Limited.
The ceremony started with the lighting of the lamp
and prayer recital, followed by the welcome
address by Dr. Shailaja Karve, Chairman,
Convocation Committee. This was followed by the
Director's address to the students wherein he
highlighted the need to be ambitious, preserve
values and stay abreast with the fast pace of
changing world dynamics. He fostered the belief of
keeping one foot on the ground while reaching out
for the stars.

The Convocation March
The Provost, Mr. Bhushan Dewan addressed the
audience. He emphasized that hard work is the key
to succeed so as to achieve a fruitful career. He
advocated the importance of sincerity, hard work,
motivation and passion as being the key factors in
excelling.
Smt. Medha Patkar in her engaging address to the
students spoke about the impact of education on
students’ lives. She related education to
management and stated that “Management is not
about being gods and goddesses; it is about
working with a positive attitude and profits on a
balance sheet cannot be inked if people do not
work for excellence”.
Lighting of the Lamp
Her address was followed by insightful words by
the guest of honor for the evening, Mr. Harish Shah,
Dr. D.G Jha, Co-ordinator, MCA and Dr. Sivakumar,
Co-ordinator MMS.
The momentous ceremony concluded with
students receiving their diplomas from the chief
guests, embarking a new tradition after the grand
success of the first convocation ceremony for the
MCA and MMS programs at SIMSR.
