to girls ( and women ) due to their inability to accurately express their feelings , emotions , relational needs , or to reach out and ask for help when they are in need .
As a language teacher , I could see that the solution need not be complicated : I just had to find the right tool . In my journey as a Venezuelan immigrant in the United States , I had searched for tools that would help me navigate the complexities of my experiences in a way that left me and others empowered and whole . This is how I came across the Non Violent Communication ( NVC ) work of Dr . Marshall Rosenberg . In his work , Dr . Rosenberg developed a communication protocol that includes a robust vocabulary list of feelings and relational needs , all aligned with the values of Saint David ’ s mission to foster a “ community known for its sense of family , compassion , and kindness .” I sought to determine how this protocol and accompanying language could best be taught to the boys in my class .
