MBA Business Administration Key Information Overview The Keele MBA has a high reputation amongst practitioners and employers, and has been running in a number of guises since the late 1980s. At the time of publishing this prospectus the MBA programme is undergoing an extensive redesign to provide a high quality and highly relevant programme to meet the needs of today’s managers in the public, private and not-for-profit sectors. The programme from 2017 is to be offered in both full-time and part-time modes. It is a post-experience programme, meaning you will need a minimum of three years relevant work experience, post-bachelors, to be accepted on this programme – and most participants have significantly more than this. Both programmes feature “problem-based learning” to supplement theoretical management context, meaning a number of practical consulting and scenario-based projects during the period of study. The programme is under development for relaunch at the time of writing, so module details cannot be reproduced here. However the design breaks with the traditional functional approach to management studies to explore topics that run to the heart of contemporary management and business: managing complexity, leadership, change and transformation, organisation and control to name a few. The MBA emphasises the modern day tasks and dilemmas of the contemporary manager and focuses on disciplines such as service management, managing in the public sector, partnership issues and the art of project management. The aim is for you to develop your reflective and critical skills as a practising manager. Full-time The full-time programme runs over the conventional academic year and comprises two semesters of taught programme, with the MBA project (equivalent to a master’s dissertation) forming the final four months of study. This programme appeals to international students from all parts of the world in addition to UK and EU students, and has the same structure as the part-time programme but with an emphasis on face-to-face, not distance delivery. Course type MBA*, postgraduate diploma*, postgraduate certificate* *Subject to validation Mode of study Full-time and part-time Indicative entry requirements Applicants need a minimum of a second class honours degree (2:2 or equivalent, any discipline) and a demonstrative record of management experience (minimum 3 years post-bachelors) along with the relevant English language qualifications. In exceptional cases degree qualification requirements come be waived on the basis of an extensive record of senior management experience. For a list of full entry requirements please visit www.keele.ac.uk/pgtcourses Contact email p.forrester@keele.ac.uk Part-time The part-time programme is designed as a blended learning programme and appeals chiefly to managers based in the EU who are able to attend a number of weekend based workshops and teaching sessions at Keele over a two year period of study. This is not a pure distance learning course, so all applicants need to be aware that their attendance in person and participation at workshops and in project work is essential. The programme demands significant commitment on the part of participants. * Subject to validation. Definition of ‘Subject to validation’: this means the course is in development and the details of the course are in the process of being finalised by the university. The majority of new courses with this status are approved; however, this is not guaranteed and should the course not go ahead you will be informed by the university and assistance will be provided to those who have been offered a place to find a suitable alternative course either at Keele or at another provider Smart minds choose Keele 85
