Supporting your studies
All postgraduates can make use of “Write Direction”,
our confidential service offering expert one-to-one
advice on a wide range of topics including essay
planning and structuring, effective reading for academic
purposes, critical thinking, writing style, grammar,
punctuation, note-taking, dissertation skills, reflection,
time management, presentation skills and plagiarism.
Enhance your career prospects
As a postgraduate you will have the opportunity
to access one to one careers guidance, meet with
employers, access vacancies on our jobs board and
attend workshops and events tailored to postgraduate
students. Our postgraduate students have are
employed in such diverse organisations as Astra Zeneca,
Bank of America, the Cabinet Office and English Heritage.
You can drop-in every Wednesday afternoon from
2.00pm till 4.00pm, or you can book in for an
appointment at flexible times throughout the week
to see one of our learning development specialists.
You can submit a collection of reflections about
your experiences at university, which will go towards
a certificate of accreditation from the Institute of
Leadership and Management. The Keele University
Skills Portfolio (KUSP) comprises of six personal
reflections. It demonstrates to potential employers
that you have a commitment to your personal and
professional development. The accreditation from the
ILM (whilst not a formal qualification) can be used as
a recommendation from the ILM in lieu of a personal
reference for a job application.
Doctoral researchers can also access workshops
and courses run by the Learning and Professional
Development Centre, including a range of courses
specifically aimed at those studying for a PhD.
