Summer2015 l Keele Management School News 08 “Looking back I can see how silly I was to even consider not going; studying abroad was not only the best thing I have done whilst at Keele... it was the best 4 months of my life. My trip took me from ‘home’ at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, one of the best ‘soccer’ colleges in the state in a prime location for travelling up and down the East Coast. To the Virginian mountains, the beautiful North Carolina coast, the nation’s capital Washington DC, to American football games, NBA basketball games and my favourite; the capital of the world, New York City. “My travels were amazing, and were a real highlight, but they were nothing without the amazing people I met from Germany, Italy, Sweden, Denmark, Australia, Mexico, France as well as making some friends from the US itself. Tom Balmer in North Carolina Tom Balmer, Marketing and Politics, travelled to the USA “After a lot of hard work, months of planning and a futile attempt to keep my bag underweight, I was finally on my way to the airport for my flight to North Carolina. The trip, which many will tell you is “life changing” and a “once in a lifetime opportunity” was finally here, and I will admit... I was nervous. The whole trip was daunting; I was worried about who would meet me, who would be my roommate, and even if I had packed the right clothes. “Now I know what you’re thinking, surely he still had to work while he was over there? Well you would be right, and in actual fact I received the best results of my entire university life. So with good results, lots of incredible memories of places I could only dream of visiting, with friends I will keep for life, I would say that for me study abroad was a definite success; and is without doubt a must if studying at Keele.” If that doesn’t tempt you, then nothing will!
