Dream job for KMS student!
“My name is Becky Orton, I am an
HRM and Business Management
student, and I have been extremely
lucky to secure my dream full-time
job before I’ve even graduated!
Choosing to study HRM at Keele
University has been a positive
experience and I believe it has
helped me to really think about the
wider context within which HRM
operates, which I think is really
important. The lecturers could not
be more helpful, they are always so
supportive and are available any
time you need them, which makes
such an encouraging environment
in which to study. The HRM modules
which I feel have particularly helped
me in my knowledge of HR are Pay
and Performance, International
HRM, Employee Development,
Employment Relationship and the
Law and Industrial Relations.
“I have secured a role as an HR
Administrator working for Warwick
Castle, which I am unbelievably
thrilled about! Even more amazing
is that Warwick Castle is owned
by Merlin Entertainments, who
own 100 attractions all over the
world, including Stoke’s own Alton
Towers, so career progression is
definitely on the cards. My duties
at the moment include creating
employee contracts, conducting
interviews and assessment centres,
managing employee files, delivering
induction training to new starters,
and even giving talks at careers fairs.
I worked for Warwick Castle during
the past two summers as a food
and beverage assistant and then
supervisor and I believe this aided
me in my application, as I knew the
culture of the business already. I
think it’s invaluable to have work
experience and university activities
such as being a student ambassador
and setting up Keele Musical Theatre
society, alongside my degree.
“I’d like to thank the HRM lecturers
for all their encouragement during
my degree and also their interest
in not just mine, but my fellow
student’s job applications and their
advice and support they have given
all of us.”
