and was president of the Emporia Kiwanis Club .
• Ross C . Hartley – Ross was president of the association in 1997 . His main objective as president was to improve the communications between the association and its members . His strong interest was in automation . During his opening address at the convention he vowed to drag the association membership “ kicking and screaming into the 21st century ”. The opening general session of the convention started with a bang , literally ! Complete with strobe lights and smoke , Ross rode in on his motorcycle to give the address to the packed session crowd . Accompanying Ross on the bike was Insurance Commissioner Kathleen Sebelius . They were both in matching black leather riding clothes . He was president of the Hartley Insurance Group in Baxter Springs . The agency was founded by his father , Robert , in 1934 . Ross graduated from Baker University in 1970 . He was a member of the U . S . Army / Kansas National Guard and served as the Platoon Sergeant . He was a graduate of the University of Kansas School of Law . He received the Agent of Merit Award in 1984 , the Young Agent of the Year Award in 1984 , and the Outstanding Agent Award from PIIAK in 1993 . In 1990 he started the company that would become the network manager for the Information Network of Kansas ( INK ). INK , an entity of the state , provided electronic access and state information such as motor vehicle records and auto registration .
• Mike Hayden – Mike was Speaker of the House in 1986 . He was a speaker at the 1986 Legislative Day . He was elected Governor in 1987 , he was a Republican . He also spoke at the 1987 Legislative Day . He served as Governor from 1987 to 1991 .
• Paul “ Lee ” Hays , Jr – Lee was president of the association in 2012 . Lee is with the Capitol Agency in Shawnee Mission . Lee said he was a member of KAIA longer than he cares to admit . He started doing committee work in 2002 and began serving on the board in 2004 . The Larry Magill Education Center was completed while Lee was president . Lee was very proud of the completed facility and urged everyone to attend the official dedication and open house that was held in June 2012 . Lee believes there were five important reasons for maintaining your membership in KAIA . They were advocacy , access to errors and omissions , continuing education , branding , and lead generations .
• Paul H . Heinz , Jr . – Paul served as treasurer for two terms in 1950 and 1951 . He was president of the association in 1955 . He was from Topeka and a partner in the Hussey Insurance Agency . Paul was elected president of the Topeka Chamber of Commerce in 1965 .
• Gregory A . Heinze – Greg was president of the association in 1998 . Greg owned Heinze & Associates in Luray . Greg stated during his induction speech , “ he hopes to carry out the theme during his year of president “ KAIA Must Educate .” He was an instructor for KAIA education classes . Greg received the Outstanding Agent of the Year Award in 1999 . Greg was awarded the President ’ s Citation Award in 2002 by President Sandy Broadstreet . She gave it to Greg for being a distinguished veteran due to his many years of service to KAIA . He was very involved in the Luray community having served on many boards including , Elks , Knights of Columbus , Lions Club , City Council , and was president of the Luray Industrial Development Corporation ,
• Victor G . Henry – Victor was president of the association in 1942 . Victor was from Wichita . Kessler & Henry Investment Company . Victor was an owner of the company since 1914 . He passed a resolution on January 5 , 1942 , pledging our members to the State Defense Council . Victor , in regard to the war and the Civilian Defense Program said , “ There is a job to do in 42 ”. Victor served the Civil Defense Program by being a section Air Raid Warden . He served as national Councilor for five years starting in 1943 . Victor served on the national association Executive Committee from 1944-1945 . He was on the national Committee of Rural Agents in 1938 . Victor achieved national recognition in 1940 when he served as chairman of the General
