Committee for the mid-year national meeting that was in Wichita . In 1948 Victor was awarded an Honorary Life Membership in the association .
• W . W . Hinds – W . W . was president of the association in 1959 . He also served as state national director in 1960 . He was from Marysville where he was owner of the W . W . Hinds Insurance Agency . He said “ I never sell insurance on the basis of price . I sell the benefits of the products . In selling , I use three lessons - Use a positive approach , talk about the benefits of the product , and close the sale .” In 1964 he suggested that the association build a new building on Topeka Avenue . William died on June 5 , 1968 at the age of 61 .
• Charles F . Hobbs – Charles spoke at our 1928 convention when he was the Republican nominee for insurance commissioner . He was elected insurance commissioner of Kansas in 1928 . He served from 1929- 1947 . He was elected president of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners in 1941 .
• Charles H . Hostetler – Charlie was president of the association in 1978 . Charlie was vice-president of Charlson-Wilson Insurance Agency in Manhattan where he worked for 50 years . He was a graduate of Kansas State University in 1960 and the Kansas University School of Law in 1963 . He was a member of the faculty of the Kansas State School of Insurance . Charlie received his CPCU designation in 1970 . Charlie was an instructor in 1970 for the first licensing school of insurance , underwritten by the association . He was a past-president of the Manhattan Fire and Casualty Board . Charlie was inducted to the KIEF Hall of Fame in 1978 . In 1977 , Charlie and Dan Messelt , co-authored a book called “ Profit-Sharing Agreements ”. He served on the Kansas Board of Regents , University of Kansas Law School ’ s Board of Governors , Kansas State University Foundation ’ s Board of Trustees and as president of the Manhattan Chamber of Commerce . Charlie died on December 8 , 2013 . He was 75 .
• Leslie D . Hostetler – Les was president of the association in 1969 . He also served as state national director for five years , from 1972-1977 . He attended Wichita University . Les entered the insurance business in 1952 as an agent in Wichita . He purchased the agency in 1957 and merged with another agency in 1964 and named it Insurors , Inc . He was vice president and agency manager . Les was a 32nd Degree Mason and directed the Midian Shrine Oriental Band for several years . He was president of the Independent Insurance Agents of Wichita in 1963 . Les was chairman of the Advertising Committee . He led a massive saturation billboard campaign in the spring of 1967 . The message on the billboards read “ For Service Beyond the Call of Duty ”.
• Herbert Hoover – He was the 31st President of the United States was quoted as saying : “ In the field of scientific and economic research , in statistics , in simplification and standardization of commodities , in the promotion of arbitration in commercial disputes , in the development of trade , trade associations have made a valued contribution to our progress .” Mr . Hoover was president from 1929-1933 .
• Cynthia J . Hower – Cindy was president in 2010 . Cindy started her insurance career working part time for her father Dale , at the Kellerman Agency in Holton in 1981 . The Kellerman Agency has been in the same downtown , historical building since 1963 . In her president ’ s acceptance speech , she stated : “ She believes that change is keeping an open mind to a new opportunity . We have opportunities in front of us today to embrace because of change ”. Cindy was the second woman president of the association . In her parting President ’ s Page Cindy stated : “ There is no way she could have predicted her term as president , but all I can say is it was the best experience under the worst circumstances . I truly thank all those that gave 200 % to help make it that way and to all of you for having the confidence in her to lead us through the challenging times ”. Cindy was on the Virtual University Committee in 2010 . She also served on the Invest Board . Cindy received the KIA / 1752 Agent of Merit Award in 2015 . She received the Distinguished Service Award in 2017 .
