• Charles G . Blakely III - C . G . Was secretary of the association in 1953 . He was also treasurer for three terms in 1954 -1956 he was possibly the first CPCU in Kansas . He was a third generation independent agent with the family agency founded in 1899 . C . G . died in May 2001 at the age of 84
• Duane Bridges – Duane was president of the association in 1968 . Duane was named to the Insurance Hall of Fame and also received the Outstanding Agent Award in 1972 . He graduated from University of Kansas with a Bachelor of Science in Business . In 1942 he entered the U . S . Army as a First Lieutenant and served four years with the Infantry Corps , including two years combat in the European Theater . He was discharged in 1946 with the rank of Major . In 1946 he entered the insurance business and purchased his mother ’ s agency , The Bridges Agency . The agency had been in his family since 1916 , in Norton . Duane remained active in the Army National Guard and was appointed as Colonel . During the Berlin crisis he served 10 months active duty . Duane died on April 1 , 1992 at the age of 77 .
• James Brier , Jr – James was one of the founders of the Topeka Insurors that was formed in the early 1920s . In 1962 , the Topeka Insurors honored James for “ his years of meritorious service both as a pillar of strength and as a respected citizen and leader in Topeka ’ s community life .
• Sandra K . Broadstreet – Sandy was president in 2002 . She was the first woman to be president of the association . At the close of her term as president , Sandy said : “ I can say I feel like this past year I have had the opportunity to ‘ Live the Magic ’.” Sandy was senior vice president of IMA of Kansas , Inc . in Wichita . She started her career in the insurance industry in 1972 with the W . G . Machette Company . She joined Insurance Management Associates Inc . in 1973 as a commercial lines account representative , advancing from her original position to assistant manager and then major accounts manager before joining the production team in 1985 . In 2000 , Sandy was promoted to senior vice president of the IMA-Wichita Property Casualty Division . She has served in several executive capacities for IMA including secretary of the corporation and member of the Board of Directors . She obtained her CPCU designation in 1979 and ARM designation in 1985 . During her acceptance speech at the 2001 Management and Leadership Conference she stated that she would like to share some personal observations about the theme of the conference : “ The horrifying events that took place four weeks ago today bring a whole new dimension of the term survival to the entire insurance industry . A catastrophe of this size has never stuck the industry previously , and we now face the biggest challenge of its existence . This national tragedy may have occurred several thousand miles away , but the ramifications of the event will affect every one of us . As we , in America , have once again been reminded , it is enormously important that we work together to achieve our goals . Together , we will all partner to be “ Winning Survivors .””
• Urban C . Brown – He was president of the association in 1944 . Urban was from Emporia .
• William D . ( Doug ) Buckles – Doug was president in 2003 . He is a partner in the firm Newkirk , Dennis & Buckles in Independence . The agency , originally named the Otto & Newkirk Agency has been in business since 1923 . Doug stated in an article on his President ’ s Page of the March / April 2003 KIA & B magazine : “ Trust & Creditability ” are the two words that are the foundation of the insurance business . He received the KIA / 1752 Club Agent of the Year Award in 2003 . He also said : “ It takes work , but selling insurance can be fun !”
• Raymond L . ( Doc ) Budge – President of the association in 1946 . Ray was from St . John . His agency was established in 1926 . He wrote an article in “ The Premium ” that was published in 1966 . In it he stated that he was still in the same location and on the job 40 years later . Raymond died on March 2 , 1973 .
• Raymond Burr – Raymond was our spokesman for national association TV advertising campaign started in 1981 . His impressive , demanding , omnipresence and down-to earth personality is what landed him this
