National Recognition in Park Management
The Glenview Park District is proud to be named a finalist for the 2025 National Gold Medal Award for Excellence in Park and Recreation Management for the second year in a row. This prestigious award is presented by the American Academy for Park and Recreation Administration( AAPRA) in partnership with the National Recreation and Park Association( NRPA).
Founded in 1965, the Gold Medal Awards honor communities across the United States that demonstrate outstanding achievement in areas such as long-range planning, resource and environmental management, volunteerism, program and professional development and agency excellence.
Agencies compete within seven categories— five based on population size, one for armed forces recreation, and one for state park systems( awarded in odd-numbered years). Glenview is a finalist in Class IV( population 30,001 to 75,000). Glenview previously won the award in 1970 and 1974 and were finalists in 2009, 2019 and 2024.
This year’ s finalists are in the running for the coveted Grand Plaque Award, to be announced at the 2025 NRPA Annual Conference.
Continued Excellence in Financial Stewardship
The Glenview Park District has once again been recognized for its commitment to transparent and thorough financial reporting. The Park District received the Government Finance Officers Association( GFOA) Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for its Annual Comprehensive Financial Report( ACFR) for the fiscal year ending April 30, 2024.
This marks the 19th consecutive year the Park District has earned this distinction. The award recognizes local governments that go above and beyond the minimum requirements of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles( GAAP).
Award-Winning Innovation at The Grove
The Grove’ s new Discovery Room was honored with the Illinois Association of Museums’ Best Practices Award for Excellence in the“ Exhibits” category this April. The award highlights innovative and creative museum exhibits that expand public access to Illinois history, culture and biodiversity.
