SATURDAY: SKATING WITH A CHAMPION
On Saturday, 45 skaters, ranging in age from 7 to adult and spanning all skill levels from Basic 1 to Senior, gathered for a full-day workshop that was nothing short of transformative. The workshop schedule was packed with technical instruction on jumps, spins, and edge work— highlighted by Kerrigan’ s emphasis on the elusive axel— as well as off-ice conditioning, stretching and improvisation.
“ She was generous with her attention to all of the skaters,” said participant Tracy Lyerly, who attended with her children.“ The kids were excited to learn from an Olympian both on and off the ice, and the parents were generally starstruck.”
The day included a mid-session break for lunch, courtesy of North Branch, followed by a Q & A session and photo opportunities with the star. Skaters eagerly posed on the ice with Kerrigan, creating memories they’ ll cherish for years.
