Men’ s Club

By TIM BONINO
Congratulations:
Let’ s be sure to congratulate young Ford Morishita on acing the par 3, Red # 4 hole in April. He is the first( and the only one currently) in line now
BONINO for the hole-in-one pot. Plenty of time for the rest of us to join him. CMC Social events and hosted couple events things you should know:
For years the Men’ s Club has been hosting business breakfasts( 2), Men’ s Night Out( 4) and holiday couple’ s events( 3) here at Charbonneau. These have always been the responsibility of the social chair, appointed by the board of the Men’ s Club, and were relatively easy to arrange and fairly cost friendly. A key component of the social chair’ s duty was to coordinate food and beverage for these events. In the past, we have had a mutually beneficial relationship with the Market Café for services. They provided flavorful food, exceptional service and did setup and cleanup at a discount to our members for these events, which made things easy. As you know, and as Mr. Bob Dylan has said …“ things have changed,” and the Market Café no longer is catering.
Post pandemic, there have been many changes to restaurants and the catering business.
From difficulty finding help, huge increases in food prices, scarcity of some food items, increased wages and businesses closing, this hasn’ t been an easy task. It has become necessary to plan well ahead to lock in dates with the decrease in number of catering companies in order to assure we have providers for our events. Through proactive planning and negotiation, the goal is to provide a restaurant-quality meal, while keeping the costs reasonable. With this in mind, we continue to do our best to achieve these goals and appreciate your continued support. Kick-off breakfast and scramble: The season-opening scramble and kick-off breakfast was held on April
12, with 96 members attending the breakfast and 70 golfing in the scramble afterwards. Mr. Groshong gave an opening salvo of changes and upcoming events after a free breakfast and welcoming meeting for the 2025 season. Board members provided brief updates and discussion. Breakfast was catered by Norton’ s Café, and we thank Alison and her staff for providing a delicious start to the day. Upcoming events: June 18: Men’ s Night Out, 2 p. m. shotgun, 4-man scramble, Mexican buffet – Butteville Market in the Pavilion 6 p. m.
June 21: Member / member, 2-man best ball, pick your partner, $ 10, gross with max 10-stroke differential. No partner, sign up in the pro shop.
 July 4: Couples Scramble, three drives, 2 p. m. shotgun start, social / dinner Hawaiian feast – Norton’ s 6 p. m.

Remember to reapply after the first nine and to rub it in( that would refer to the sun block, not your golf scoring). Remember, there is no added benefit to getting a higher SPF than SPF 50.
