BUT ISN’T CALORIE COUNTING
OBSESSIVE?
Short answer is no, it’s not. In today’s society, it’s very easy
to eat more calories than your body needs to sustain itself.
Calorie dense nutrient deficient foods are everywhere. Like
never before, we have near constant access to them. Eating
just 200 calories per day more than your body needs to
maintain its weight will result in a nearly 25 pound weight
gain in one year. Two hundred calories is about half of a
muffin from Starbucks or one can of soda or one bottle of
fruit juice. Paying attention to your caloric intake is no
different than paying attention to your bank account. It’s not
obsessive. It’s responsible. Just like you might forego a
purchase you want today because you’re saving money for a
vacation in six months, monitoring calories is making
decisions about what to eat today with a mind toward where
you want to be in six months or a year or two from now.
