2024 has been a remarkable year for the Drama Club . The Club reached out to potential Year 1 members through Arts Exposure and Arts Alive . From January to May , the Club channelled its energies into Drama Night , a biannual showcase of its members ’ unique strengths in scriptwriting , directing , acting , sound and music , lighting and props creation .
The theme for Drama Night focused on the triumph of hope . Two original plays were staged . The Merger , a rap musical written by our Drama President , David Chong ( LE401 ), was based on the events surrounding the merger of Singapore and Malaysia . Our Creative Head , Patrick Nott ( ML403 ), wrote Part of You , a reflective piece that centred on the protagonist overcoming personal struggles and ultimately emerging victorious . It was a resounding success .
In Term 3 , the SJI Drama also participated in the Mutien Festival , a biannual event showcasing the unique strengths of SJI ’ s performing arts groups . The short play staged was centred on the Festival ’ s theme of belief . The play , written by Jai Panchmatia ( FN301 ), focused on a young writer ’ s journey to success .

and performances . This was a heartwarming and fulfilling experience , and the club hopes to continue to engage the community through such efforts .
To deepen members ’ understanding of dramatic forms , conventions , and techniques , they watched Titoudao , a play by esteemed Singaporean playwright Kuo Pao Kun . This was the first time the Club had watched a professional stage performance in a non-school setting . Members were enriched through exposure to wayang , one of the oldest traditional theatre forms , as well as the use of different languages and dialects , and sophisticated sets .
