The Guitar Ensemble ’ s performances at the Open House and Mutien Festival in 2024 were not just about music but the growth and collaboration of its members . From seniors stepping into leadership roles to juniors contributing behind the scenes , each student experienced personal and musical growth within the ensemble . |
Dexter Lee ( FN403 ) reflected on his final performance at the Open House as part of the graduating cohort . “ This was the last note I ’ ll play with the ensemble ,” he said . “ Mutien may not be as big as SYF , but it holds memories just as meaningful . I stayed to perform because this CCA is not just about playing the guitar – it ’ s about sharing the art .” |

Keon Lim ( FN101 ) participated in the Mutien Festival as a Student Ambassador . Reflecting on the experience , he shared , “ It was not just about the melodies played by the seniors ; working behind the scenes made the event a success . Helping out as a Student Ambassador gave me a chance to be part of the action while enjoying the performance .”
For Izac Lee ( FN201 ), a newly – promoted member of the Senior Ensemble , Mutien was a significant learning curve . “ Moving to the Senior Ensemble felt like a big change ,” he said . “ It wasn ’ t just about learning a new piece but about teamwork . We spent weeks preparing , helping one another with the score , and breaking down parts . It was intense , but we were all in it together .”
|
Outgoing President Isaac Soh ( FN402 ) encapsulated the essence of leadership within the ensemble , noting that “ Leadership was more about the people I was with than the title . Overcoming challenges wasn ’ t a solo effort – it was about being surrounded by peers and juniors who were just as dedicated .”
These students ’ stories reflect the camaraderie , growth , and passion within the SJI Guitar Ensemble , making it a place where music and community come together to shape Josephians for life .
