The school ’ s Table Tennis team is renowned for its unwavering determination and fighting spirit , especially during the rigorous training sessions leading up to the annual National School Games ( NSG ) Table Tennis Championships . Each player consistently demonstrates remarkable skill , effort , and resilience throughout the competition .
The SJI B-Division Table Tennis team garnered Silver at the NSG 2024 ( South Zone ). The team put up a good fight all the way from the first competition to the finals . It was a tight fight to the end , and we placed 2nd . Our Josephians carried themselves as true sportsmen and gave Raffles Institution a good fight in the finals .
The Table Tennis C-Division team also achieved a commendable 4th place at the NSG , marking a significant milestone for SJI . Their journey began with impressive victories in the group stages against ACS Barker and Dunman High , which propelled them to the League 1 Round of 16 .
Despite facing tough opponents such as River Valley , Maris Stella and Anglican High , they persevered and triumphed in the quarterfinals . Although the team was defeated by Hwa Chong in the semifinals , this marked a historic moment , securing a medal on the national stage after an eight-year hiatus . The team ’ s undefeated streak until that point highlights their dedication and skill .
Whilst not competitively participating in the NSGs this year , the A-Division started at the end of Term 1 and the students train alongside the B and C-Divisions periodically , fostering a collaborative environment .
In addition to the training and competitions , community involvement plays a key role in the Table Tennis team ’ s development . This year , Judo and Table Tennis CCA students collaborated on a student-initiated food drive , collecting food within the school to donate to “ Food from the Heart ,” exemplifying their commitment to making a positive impact beyond sports .
