The MOE-OUTWARD BOUND SINGAPORE ( OBS ) 5-DAY CHALLENGE COURSE was a significant experience for our Year 3 students , held in two batches in June and another in July . This national initiative brought together students from five different schools , encouraging inclusivity and fostering a sense of community through shared experiences . The students were grouped into “ Watches ,” each led by an experienced OBS instructor , and worked as cohesive teams to complete various outdoor tasks and challenges .
The course included at least one land or sea-based expedition , which required students to demonstrate endurance and teamwork . They hiked through rugged terrain or kayaked along coastal areas , culminating in an overnight stay in tents where
they experienced sleeping under the stars . The core objective of the programme was to foster resilience , ruggedness , and an appreciation of diversity among students . The authentic outdoor learning experiences helped them develop essential life skills like problem-solving , adaptability , and perseverance .
Students had the opportunity to apply what they had learnt from previous outdoor education lessons and engage meaningfully with peers from other schools . The course was a valuable experience that pushed students out of their comfort zones , leading to personal growth , strengthened bonds , and a deeper appreciation for diversity and resilience .
