FOUNDER ’ S DAY
DIARY OF EVENTS
On 30 April , SJI celebrated its 172nd Founder ’ s Day in honor of St John Baptist de La Salle , recognising the exceptional achievements of Josephians in both academics and cocurricular activities . The event celebrated students who brought pride to the school in the past year .
Mr . Bernard Tan ( SJI Class of 1982 , Country President of Singapore for Sinar Mas ) served as the Guest-of-Honour . The day began with a solemn Mass , expressing gratitude for the 172 years of blessings since SJI ' s founding in 1852 .
The Founder ’ s Day Assembly included performances by the SJI Vocal Ensemble , the SJI Symphonic Band , and a special rendition of Elton John ’ s “ I ’ m Still Standing ” by student Aidan Gregory Khoo ( LE607 ). The school ’ s Principal , Mr Justin Arul Pierre , presented the School Report for May 2023 to April 2024 , highlighting the achievements and contributions of numerous Josephians . The audience of over 2,300 was captivated by the showcase , and their pride and joy were clearly visible .
In his address , Mr . Pierre urged the school community not only to celebrate its rich heritage but to recommit to the vision and mission of St John Baptist de La Salle . He encouraged Josephians to continue living by the Founder ’ s values , especially his emphasis on serving others and becoming servant leaders .
This year , more than 250 students were honoured with awards for their outstanding academic and cocurricular achievements . Additionally , tokens of appreciation were presented to the Parent Support Group members in recognition for their dedication and invaluable contributions to the school .
The celebration of Founder ’ s Day not only highlighted the past achievements of the SJI community but also inspired a renewed commitment to its guiding principles and mission for the future .
