NATIONAL CELEBRATIONS

DIARY OF EVENTS
At SJI , the celebrations of Chinese New Year , Deepavali , and Hari Raya Puasa reflect the school ’ s dedication to cultural and religious inclusion , providing opportunities for all students and staff to participate and appreciate diverse traditions .
The SJI Student Leaders Investiture was held in May . The school witnessed the ceremony , which marked the formal handing over of the leadership mantle from Year 4 and Year 6 student leaders to the Year 3 and Year 5 student leaders respectively . In attendance also were Student Leaders from Anglo Chinese Junior College , Methodist Girls School , Mayflower Secondary School , St . Nicholas ’ Girls School , Nanyang Junior College and St . Andrew ’ s Junior College .
Leadership is not just a title but a responsibility and we are proud of what our student leaders have accomplished , be it in the Sporting arena , Uniformed Groups , Performing Arts or Student Leadership .
We are also confident that the incoming leaders will build on the foundation laid and continue to lead with integrity and serve with distinction .
This year , Chinese New Year was celebrated with vibrant performances , including lion dances , festive music and calligraphy , symbolising unity and good fortune . Josephians and staff engaged in customs such as the exchange of mandarin oranges , experiencing the richness of Chinese culture firsthand .
Deepavali , the festival of lights , saw colorful decorations and cultural performances in the school to highlight the triumph of light over darkness . Various activities and decorations in school allowed students to immerse themselves in the beauty of Hindu culture , fostering appreciation and understanding .
Hari Raya Puasa , celebrated by the Muslim community , emphasised themes of forgiveness and renewal . Students learnt about fasting during Ramadan and the significance of Eid , promoting a spirit of inclusivity .
Together , these celebrations not only enriched the school experience but also promoted a deeper understanding of the different cultures and religions within the SJI community .
