Luke Tong is an accomplished all-rounder , excelling both academically and in his non-academic efforts . He is resilient , committed , and unwavering in his efforts to achieve his personal best .
Luke ’ s leadership qualities were evident early on when he was selected as a school prefect from Year 1 to Year 4 and as the class Vice-Chairman in 2023 . As Vice-Chairman , he created a supportive learning environment , encouraging his peers and inspiring involvement . His leadership grew further when he was appointed a Peer Support Facilitator in 2024 , where he played a key role in planning and facilitating the Year 1 Orientation Camp . Luke ' s empathetic and thoughtful nature has made him a valuable contributor to the SJI community .
In addition to his leadership , Luke is articulate and diplomatic . His communication skills enable him to express his ideas effectively in group discussions , while also being receptive to the views of others , fostering teamwork . His peers appreciate his ability to listen and contribute meaningfully to group efforts .
Luke ’ s passion for learning spans both the Sciences and Humanities . His interest in world affairs led him to participate in various Model United Nations ( MUN ) conferences . In 2023 , he took part in the SJI MUN and the Preparatory MUN , where his eloquence earned him awards such as Best Position Paper and Honourable Mention . In 2024 , he represented SJI at the Singapore MUN , competing against international universities , and was awarded a Verbal Commendation .
Luke also possesses a keen entrepreneurial spirit and problem-solving ability . He was selected for the Youth STEM Empowerment Programme ( YSEP ), where he developed innovative solutions to real-world problems . His team won the Design Marvel Award at the Ngee Ann Polytechnic Marine Offshore and Sustainability Challenge in 2023 . His problem-solving skills were further honed in the Signum Fidei programme , where he collaborated with organisations such as Space Faculty to promote the International Space Challenge .
A disciplined athlete , Luke represented SJI in the National School Games ( NSG ) for Track and Field and Cross Country in 2023 and 2024 , reaching the finals in the 800m event . As Captain of the Cross-Country team , he led with integrity and high standards . He also volunteered at the Singapore Athletics Club Combined Track and Field Meet , reflecting his commitment to serving the community .
With his strong values , leadership , and dedication , Luke is poised to continue making a meaningful impact in the future .
Edgar Maung exemplifies the core Lasallian values of Faith , Service , and Community , consistently demonstrating a deep commitment to these principles . He is a people-centered individual who finds meaning in his actions . As a student leader , Edgar displays values such as empathy , responsibility , gratitude , and humility . Academically , he maintains a positive attitude , participating actively in class and showing perseverance when faced with challenges .
A natural leader , Edgar served as the Unit Sergeant Major ( USM ) of NCC Land , where he was responsible for planning weekly training sessions . He ensured that cadets were well disciplined and trained in necessary drills , military related knowledge and physical training . He is a role model to his juniors emphasising the importance of doing what is right .
In 2024 , he served as Parade Commander for the SJI Anniversary Parade and oversaw the NCC Land annual camp . Despite his academic commitments , Edgar also made time to collaborate with leaders from Singapore Chinese Girls ’ School to organise a cluster training session .
Edgar ’ s leadership and dedication in his CCA have earned him multiple accolades . In 2022 , he received the SJI Anniversary Parade Outstanding Cadet Award , given to one student per level in each CCA . In 2024 , he was awarded the highest honour attainable by a Senior Cadet Leader , the NCC Outstanding Cadet Award .
Edgar also took on leadership roles in the Prefectorial Board from 2023- 24 , overseeing major school events such as Racial Harmony Day and CNY celebrations . As a Peer Support Leader ( PSL ) and Peer Support Facilitator ( PSF ), he played a crucial role in mentoring younger students . He was certainly a great role model for the young Josephians joining SJI . Edgar also led the inaugural SJI Mighty Mousetrap Car Challenge , the school ’ s first STEM competition . He took on numerous roles and contributed greatly to the success of the event .
Edgar ’ s service extended beyond the school community . In 2024 , as Vice President of the SJI X Ray Of Hope VIA event , he promoted awareness of the migrant worker community in Singapore , encouraging Josephians to engage with social issues . He was also an EXCO member of the Speech Buddy VIA , where he helped educate P6 students on public speaking . Additionally , he organised sharing sessions at his primary school , helping younger students transition to secondary school life .
His form tutor , Ms Surjeet Kaur shares , “ Edgar ’ s strong sense of commitment towards SJI and the community at large is truly commendable . He truly epitomizes the words ‘ Enter to Learn , Leave to Serve ’. He will undoubtedly make a difference in society .”
