Idris is a responsible , hardworking , and disciplined individual who takes pride in his work and constantly seeks self-improvement . He speaks with confidence and often shares insightful perspectives on various topics .
Idris is well-liked by his peers , showing sensitivity to their needs and a willingness to lend a helping hand . He is compassionate , frequently offering to share his knowledge and ideas . His positive attitude towards learning and dedication to his academic goals make him a diligent and committed student , always striving to fulfill his potential by setting and achieving high standards for himself . Idris is conscientious and meticulous in his work , consistently seeking to optimise his strengths .
Idris participated in numerous competitions and programmes , including the Philippine International Mathematics Olympiad , Plain English-Speaking Award ( PESA ), Singapore Math Project Festival , Queen ’ s Commonwealth Essay Competition , and the Singapore Junior Physics Olympiad . He was selected to represent SJI in oratorical competitions and emerged as the Champion in the 2024 Tamil National Debate Competition , where he was named Best Speaker in all five rounds .
Ms Kassandra Lim , Idris ’ Form Tutor and Biology teacher , praised his scientific mind , noting his deep understanding of biological principles and innovative approaches to research , which demonstrate a true passion for the subject . His Chemistry teacher , Miss Gina Tan , highlighted his creative problem-solving skills , collaborative spirit , and positive attitude towards challenges .
Idris also exhibits strong leadership qualities . As the Deputy Unit Chairperson of SJI ’ s National Police Cadet Corps ( NPCC ), he led training sessions , camps , and events , working closely with teacher officers . He was awarded the Best Skills Award in the 2021 SJI Muster Parade , recognising his proficiency in various NPCC activities . In 2024 , Idris was honored with the prestigious Singapore Police Force NPCC Badge Award , following a series of rigorous interviews . He attained the rank of Station Inspector , the highest rank a cadet can achieve in secondary school .
Beyond his CCA , Idris served as a Prefect from Year 3 to 4 and held a leadership role in the Prefectorial Board ’ s Executive Committee . He also led the ACE Camps for Year 2 students , promoting outdoor skills and personal development . Committed to service , Idris participated in Values-in-Action projects and served as an ambassador at the SJI Open House . As a Singapore Police Force Public Youth Ambassador , he raised awareness about online crimes .
Idris ’ dedication to faith , service , and integrity exemplifies Lasallian values , and his contributions have made a lasting impact both at SJI and within the broader community .
Tan Jing Heng is a distinguished Josephian whose experiences at SJI showcase his commitment to serving the community . He believes in applying what he learns in the classroom and from school life to make a meaningful impact on society . This is evident in his leadership and involvement in numerous Values-in-Action ( VIA ) initiatives , often taking the lead in organising and executing these projects with his peers .
As President of the Vocal Ensemble , Jing Heng led the group with distinction , overseeing activities and ensuring high-quality performances . His leadership extended beyond performances to community service , such as organising the Willing Hearts VIA event , where he led the ensemble in preparing meals for families in need . This initiative required collaboration with Willing Hearts , careful coordination , and commitment to ensuring timely meal deliveries . Jing Heng recognised the significance of this project and was driven by the knowledge that his efforts directly supported vulnerable families .
Jing Heng also held significant leadership roles in the school ' s student body . As a member of the Prefect Executive Committee , he played a crucial part in planning major school events , representing SJI at external functions , and enhancing school spirit through various initiatives . He organised the Prefect EXCO camp , managed logistics for multiple events , and even served as emcee for Teachers ' Day celebrations . Jing Heng ' s leadership was always motivated by a desire to serve the collective good , never for personal gain . His empathetic and collaborative nature was further demonstrated in the Peer Support Program , where he guided new students and facilitated camps , contributing to a supportive and welcoming school environment . Many new Josephians found him an inspiring role model , motivating them to become more deeply involved in school life .
Jing Heng ' s sense of social responsibility extended to his participation in various community service projects . He led a team at the Lasallian Leadership Training Camp in 2023 , where they visited an old folks ' home , cleaned medical equipment , and engaged with the elderly . In 2024 , he led recreational activities for residents at NTUC Health Nursing Home and participated in Project Tersus , a beach cleanup initiative , and Project Amica , helping to clean homes of elderly residents . These initiatives reflect his dedication to making a positive impact in the community .
Jing Heng ' s academic excellence , leadership , and commitment to community service makes him a role model for his peers . His journey at SJI is one of inspiration , showcasing a young leader prepared to face future challenges and continue making meaningful contributions to the world around him .
