In 2024 , the A-Division SJI Football Girls ’ team competed in the National School Games ( NSG ). The competition season was rigorous , and although the results did not meet the team ’ s expectations , it was an invaluable learning experience . During the season , the team realised that football was not only a test of endurance and skills , but also one of resilience , sportsmanship and the ability to bounce back in the face of adversities .

A significant opportunity came by when the team had the chance to train and play against the Hougang United Women ’ s Team . Being exposed to higher levels of game intensity in a professional setting deepened the team ’ s understanding of game dynamics , as well as the competitive demand of the sport . To end off the training session , the Hougang United Women ’ s Team kindly opened the floor to a question and answer session which allowed for the SJI team of girls to clarify doubts , gain valuable insights and spark motivation for the sport .
Despite comprising mostly beginners , the team worked tirelessly twice a week , striving to improve their skills to fight against the stronger , more experienced opponents . It was heartwarming to see many players displaying their passion and staying back after training to work on their technique , supporting one another in the process . Moreover , the several friendly matches interspersed with regular training sessions cultivated communication skills , teamwork and determination among the team , whilst gaining a better understanding of game strategies .
