The Mathematics Club ’ s 2024 journey has been marked by exploration , collaboration , and achievement . Our weekly Mathjamming sessions continued to serve as a dynamic space for engaging discussions , where members delved into advanced mathematical concepts , sharpening both their understanding and presentation skills . These sessions fostered a culture of intellectual curiosity , as members explored the connection between theory and practice while developing effective communication skills .
In addition to our regular sessions , the club focused on enhancing support for the broader school community . In April , we organised a Graphic Display Calculator ( GDC ) workshop for Year 3 students , equipping them with key GDC skills for their studies . To further extend our reach , we planned and launched an Instagram account , carefully curating content to provide peers with GDC tips and timely reminders on mathematical topics . The account began with a series on Internal Assessments ( IA ), aimed at guiding Year 5 students through their IA projects . The EXCO worked diligently to ensure the account was a useful resource , balancing accessibility with valuable mathematical insights .
To foster a love of mathematics in younger students , EXCO members also planned and executed an engaging post-exam activity for Year 3 juniors . This online mathematical game allowed students to apply their problem-solving skills in a fun , competitive environment . Selected participants advanced to the Golden Bell Competition , where they showcased their quick-thinking and mathematical aptitude .
The club ’ s efforts extended to facilitating participation in prestigious competitions . SJI earned a Distinction Award at the international TI-Nspire Mathematics Competition . In the International Mathematical Modelling Challenge ( IMMC ), our teams received one Merit and one Distinction Award . Finally , our team secured a Merit Award in the Singapore International Mathematical and Computational Challenge ( SIMC 2.0 ), against stiff competition from top global schools .
This year ’ s successes reflect the club ’ s dedication to fostering collaborative problem-solving and mathematical innovation .
