Team Metamorphus , consisting of Raphael Chua Wei Ming ( JC104 ), Sheares Toh Xue Wen ( JC101 ), Tan Zng Tze Juan ( JC105 ) and Yong Zhe Rui Gabriel ( JC104 ), dealt with the problem of poor eating habits and lack of fitness in many Singaporeans . They proposed the idea of establishing highly-customizable and subscription-based e-platform “ Dr . Life ”, a one-stop service catering to people who wished to adopt a healthier lifestyle . The team was determined and pushed through the obstacles faced including a demanding academic workload . They eventually won $ 100 .
Team Velo-city , comprising Yong Zheng Yew ( JC104 ), Teoh Le Yi ( JC109 ), Gerard Christopher ( JC109 ) and Hrishikesh Harish Pai ( JC104 ), won the top prize of $ 500 , with their idea of SAM ( Smart Assistive Monitors ). SAM is an innovative wearable device designed to help monitor senior citizens ’ health conditions closely and conveniently – a solution to the increasing needs of the rapidly aging population in Singapore .
Social Innovation Relay 2016 Two PRISM teams also participated in the Social Innovation Relay 2016 , that was jointly organized by Junior Academy Europe and Junior Academy Singapore . The competition focuses on creating unique business solutions to problems plaguing our society . Team GoBAD emerged third place in the competition while Team DITHfference was ranked among the Top 10 .
Team DITH-fference chose professionals , managers , executives and technicians ( PMETs ) as their target group . The team members realized that in this increasingly competitive working environment , older PMETs are often retrenched , and are unable to regain employment , resulting in an immense waste of valuable talent and working experience . The team members included Tristan Lim Yi De ( JC107 ), Darren Ong Kee-Xuan ( JC107 ), Ira Jain ( JC107 ) and Lee Seung Hyun ( JC107 ).
The other team , GoBAD , made up of members Noah Joel Lopez ( JC106 ), Do Sy Hoang ( JC102 ), Vignesh Sankar Iyer ( JC109 ) and Ethan Ng Teng-Jih ( JC110 ), decided to undertake the issue of food
waste . The idea came about as they observed that Josephians were putting special effort to reduce food waste in the school canteen . They expanded the idea and developed a business plan to bridge food waste producers to companies that converted the food waste into organic fertilizing substances for subsequent resale to agriculture sectors in the Asian markets .
Collaboration with BMDP 2016 also marked PRISM ’ s first collaboration with the Bone Marrow Donor Programme ( BMDP ), who was keen to work with SJI as they were impressed with the team who participated in the Citi-YFC 2015 Programme to help raise awareness of blood cancer and to increase the total number of registered bone marrow donors in Singapore .
Hence , PRISM participated in the 11th International Donor Registry Conference ( IDRC ) in Singapore , which was organized by BMDP and attended by delegates from 42 countries . PRISM presented a special item as part of the closing ceremony at Hotel Fort Canning on 2 June . Nearly all the PRISM members were involved in this huge event where they used lighted balloons to form the letter , “ SG ”, which then transformed into the letters “ GER ”, which represented the passing of the next IDRC host country to Germany from Singapore . The formation was synchronized to the tune of the song “ Fight ” as the balloons symbolized the fight and hope of the cancer victims . The balloon formation deeply impressed the delegates and received much applause and praise .
The entire PRISM team spent several days to prepare for this event , which extended into the June holidays . Despite the hard work required , the entire PRISM team was united in the common goal of doing their part to help the cancer patients . Through the process , students also learnt to better appreciate the BMDP and their inspiring work .
While PRISM has achieved many milestones despite being a relatively young Club , it does not believe in resting on its laurels . The Club wants to challenge its members to look beyond their own needs and wants , so as to make a significant difference in society .
