Arts Alive : During the start of the year , the SJIMB participated in the Arts Alive event held by the school . This event is held for the sole purpose of introducing each and every aesthetics group to the Secondary One students to give them an introduction to each CCA . The Secondary One students will be enticed by what each different group has to offer , giving them a chance to decide which group they should join and spend their next 4 years in . For this year ’ s Arts Alive , the SJIMB performed three songs . The first one was a very special performance by the SJIMB Brass Ensemble , in which they played “ Viva La Vida ” by Coldplay . This song is very familiar to many of the Secondary One students , and definitely got them excited as they were seen clapping along to the tune . The second song was “ Accidentally in Love ”, which many of the Secondary 1 students may have heard in the hit motion picture , Shrek . Finally , the SJIMB performed a very popular song known as “ I Gotta Feeling ” by the Black Eyed Peas . By the end of the whole performance , both the Secondary One students and members of the SJIMB were thrilled . It was clear that we had won the hearts of many Secondary One students .

Alumni Band performs at Renaissance XIX , conducted by Mr Darence Leng
Renaissance XIX : Months of preparation , dedication and effort all boiled down to this one night - 6th April 2014 . This year , the SJIMB held its 19th Renaissance at the CJC Performing Arts Centre . We had spent months in preparation for this magical night , with the final product being something we would proudly remember for many years to come . As this concert is only held once every two years , we were sure to make it worth the wait . We began the night of wonder with a powerful piece called “ Fanfare and Flourishes ”. Ensuring the audience the night ahead would be filled with delight , this piece was a suitable intro into the beauty of Renaissance . Our next song was “ Hymn to the Infinite Sky ” which instilled peace and serenity in our audience with majestic grace that is this piece . It was delicate yet delightful . Our conductor , Mr Darrence Leng , then proceed offstage leaving the band in the capable hands of our student conductor , Aidil Syukri , who then proceeded to conduct our next song , “ Forever Shining ”. With his grace and magnificence , this piece was performed wonderfully at the hands of Aidil .
