2014 was a year of changes for the SJI Tennis team . An important change was the change in location of our training grounds to the Yio Chu Kang Tennis Centre and it did not take long for the team to adjust to their new venue . The boys also embarked on their first community involvement project under project Scubilion to raise awareness for Beyond Social Services , an organization that focuses on curbing delinquency among disadvantaged young people and to move them beyond their problems .

During the National Inter-School Tennis Championship , the boys managed to perform their best despite facing stiff competition from schools such as Raffles Institution as well as Anglo Chinese School ( Independent ), emerging in fourth position in the preliminary games for both ‘ B ’ and ‘ C ’ Divisions . Moreover , the SJI ‘ B ’ Division team came close to defeating Anglo Chinese School ( Independent ), losing out with a 3-2 score , a personal best for the school since the last decade . Rigorous training has definitely enabled the boys to push themselves both physically and mentally . Despite their best efforts , they did not make it to the semi-finals but were contented that they put up a good fight for all their matches .
From their training , not only did the boys deepen their love as well as passion for tennis , they also learnt valuable life lessons such as perseverance , coping with failure and teamwork . Along with the utmost support from their teachers-in-charge as well as coaches William and Wesly , the team gelled to achieve a strong sense of unity to overcome all obstacles that came their way .
