Renaissance 2012 14 April was a magical night as the Band held its 18th Renaissance Concert . A highlight in the Band ’ s calendar , the Renaissance concert is only held once every two years . The theme for the night , “ A Realm of Dreams ”, encompassed the aspirations of the bandsmen as they continually adapt to new musical directions each year . |
This year was especially memorable as it saw the bandsmen performing under the baton of their new Music Director , Mr Darence Leng . Mr Leng , the Concert Master of the Philharmonic Winds , led the Band through pieces such as ‘ Gundam – Char ’ s Counterattack ’ and ‘ The Lion King ’. It was the Band ’ s first performance with Mr Leng . |

On a lighter note , pieces such as ‘ Spring Breath March ’, ‘ The Best of Glee ’ and ‘ Japanese Graffiti XIII ’ helped brighten the mood of the night . The Band was also especially fortunate to have the Alumni Band return to perform ‘ Howl ’ s Moving Castle ’ and ‘ Galaxy Express 999 ’. The concert also included performances by the percussion ensemble (‘ Requiem for a Dream ’ and ‘ Rolling in the Deep ’) as well as the brass and string ensemble (‘ Selections from Pirates of the Caribbean ’).
Renaissance XVIII was definitely an extraordinary and enchanting night that wowed the audience as the Band transported them through a realm of dreams .

In memory of the victims of the earthquake and tsunami that hit Japan on 11th March 2011 , the Band also performed the piece ‘ The Sun Will Rise Again ’. Composed by Philip Sparke and dedicated to the victims of that disaster , the Band touched the hearts of
