Arts Alive Performance At the beginning of the year , the annual Arts Alive concert was held for the new Secondary One students to introduce them to the different Performing Arts CCAs in SJI . During the performance , the Band wowed the Secondary Ones with its SYF 2011 Set Piece , Memories of Friendship . The SJIMB also had them singing and clapping to the familiar pop song , Firework , by Katy Perry . At the end of the performance , many Secondary One students were thoroughly thrilled and convinced that the Band would be their choice of CCA .
Chinese New Year Performance Chinese New Year was celebrated in SJI on 20th January , and the Band , having prepared several pieces to perform , went on stage and put up a spectacular performance of Accidentally In Love . Following that , the Brass Ensemble entertained the students gathered in the hall with the lively and energetic song — Popeye the Sailor Man . The Band had certainly set the mood for festivity and joyous celebration that day .
St Patrick ’ s Day St Patrick ’ s Day Parade was held on 18 March , in commemoration of St Patrick , Ireland ’ s patron saint , and also the Irish National Day . The Band marched proudly from the Asian Civilizations Museum to the UOB Plaza despite the initial downpour and the intermittent drizzles thereafter . This year , the Band also got to play the School Rally alongside the SJI Pipe Band . The bandsmen thoroughly enjoyed the unique experience of being immersed in the rich culture of the Irish community .
This year , the parade was also held in conjunction with the Down Syndrome Association of Singapore ’ s Buddy Walk to commemorate the World Down Syndrome Day ( WDSD ). This was certainly a heartwarming experience for many of the Bandsmen . The colourful parade of St Patrick ’ s Day continues to be a feature in our annual calendar that the bandsmen look forward to .
