History of SJI Pelandok Scouts
SJI Pelandok Scouts is proud to be the oldest surviving Scout Unit in Singapore , and the 4th oldest Scout unit . It was started in 1911 when the first scoutmaster , Brother Gordian , applied for a warrant from the Scouts Association to start a troop in SJI with 25 scouts . The unit grew over the next 101 years . Eventually , another unit was created , the Hippo Scouts , to cater to growing demand , which moved to SJI International after it was established . SJI Scouts proudly celebrated their centenary last year , and one of the activities they will be doing at the end of 2012 will be Project Gordian , a volunteer trip to Cambodia .

SJSM combined school activity The SJI Pelandok Scouts participated in the annual combined activity with St Margaret ’ s Secondary School Girl Guides from 10 - 11 February . The camp was held in both schools , where Scouts were sorted into various Pokémon-themed groups . The next day , the SJI unit went to SMSS , where they went on an ‘ Amazing Race ’ around Singapore , travelling from place to place and completing the task at each station . We had lots of fun , with the camp ending on a positive note .
Adiji Chief Scout The current Chief Scout of Singapore is none other than President Tony Tan . Following his recent election as President , he also became the 7th Chief Scout of the Singapore Scout Association . Thus the Adiji Chief Scout event was held on 25 February at St Patrick ’ s School where he studied there for four years before joining SJI ( previously the senior school section ). The SJI Pelandok Scout unit was tasked with building the gateway , a fanlike structure at the school gate which all visitors and scouts would have gazed upon as they entered the school field . Thus , selected scouts were chosen to build this imposing gateway . It was one of the rare occasions where the whole Singapore Scouting fraternity participated in one event .
National Patrol Camp This is a prestigious nationwide competition , in which units all over Singapore send teams to compete in campcraft skills , with the ultimate goal of getting a Gold award . SJI Pelandok Scouts sent a team of 8 to Sarimbun from 24 to 28 November 2011 . There , the team rushed to pitch tents , construct gadgets and show the judges their excellent campcraft skills . It was also an opportunity to make friends with other Scouts . Overall , it was a good experience for the participants as it really challenged them to go beyond their limits . SJI Pelandok Scouts did not disappoint by bagging the Gold award .
