2-star Kayaking Course In June 2012 , a few of our cadets went for the 2-star Kayaking Course along Kallang River . Over a span of 3 days , the boys learnt the skills needed to attain the NCC 2-star Kayaking badge . The course also included an expedition covering approximately 12km . The countless hours of extreme rowing left their muscles aching and bodies drained . However , against all odds , the boys ultimately completed the grueling expedition under the watchful eyes of the strict instructor , earning themselves a certificate of achievement and the coveted 2-star Kayaking badge .
NDP 2012 Reflections This year , we sent one of our own cadets , 3SG Brandon Chong to represent SJI in the 2012 NDP parade . This is what he had to say about his unique experience in the parade .
“ When my CSM Zhi Kai first told me of this opportunity , he described it as a “ once-in-alifetime ” experience . It was only after the first few sessions that I truly comprehended his words . The NDP journey was certainly an eye-opening experience for me . I underwent 12 rigorous weekly trainings at Nee Soon Camp and Marina Bay Platform leading up to 9 August itself , but the benefits certainly outweighed the initial apprehension . I made many new friends from other school units , and gelled with the cadet officers . I found it rather ironic that I was looking forward to the end of the NDP journey when I first started training . The NDP experience was no doubt enjoyable and if given the chance to relive these past few months , I would gladly accept it .”
